Award winning complete renovation of a three-bedroom newly completed high-rise condominium on the 39th floor at One Dalton Place in Boston, by former I.M. Pei Partner Henry Cobb. Winner of the 2025 Institute of Classical Architecture - New England’s Bulfinch Award.
- Creation of a personal pied-a terre in the city for a Rhode Island client featuring display of various classical collections, including a Picasso, a Henri Lebasque and paintings by client’s mother.
- The goal: creation of a home, not a stage: starting with a “a white box” with challenging angles and spectacular views. Working hand in hand with the Interior Designer; a vision of Art Deco of the Paris salons of the early 20th century.
- Character to the architecture added by the introduction of: European classical symmetry, lacking from the angular original plan, as well as silver and gold leafed vaulted ceilings, cove mouldings, wall paneling and hand-painted de Gournay wallpaper, limestone fireplace by Chesney’s, marble radiating floors, framed glass showers in the bathrooms, and lacquered finishes.
- Gold-leaf on silk wallcovering in the primary suite adds a soft glow while Japanese screen in the Living Room fits right at home with the Deco aura. The high gloss Kitchen modified; yet, retaining the minimalistic modern character, not competing with the furnishings.
- A personal cohesion between classical and modern; unique and pleasing to our client without being trendy “Transitional”.
